Southport Closed 2011-12 – Finals Night Results

The finals were held at St Teresa’s on Tuesday 21st February, and those who attended witnessed some high class table tennis from the stars of the future. Of the 20 appearances at the table for the 9 matches, 12 were by juniors.

However, it was young-at-heart Dave Evans that ultimately triumphed, as he carried off not only the Over 40′s and Over 55′s trophies, beating Roger Neal in both of them, but also the Open Singles title. Giving 48 years advantage to his junior opponent, Robert Barker, he drew on his vast experience to take a 2-set lead with hardly a hiccup. He seemed to be catching a breather in losing the third set 11-2, but then showed his stamina to finish comfortably enough in the 4th set. A magnificent achievement!
